I chose Garmin over the other remote release products because I already use the Pro 550 e-collar system and looked forward to have a backup handheld controller.
Because it has two completely different functions, this (to me) is a fairly complicated piece of equipment. This is further complicated because it ships with entirely inadequate instructions. If you purchase this product, you MUST download the online user manual (www.garmin.com/manuals/procontrol). This manual is easy to follow and provides all the instruction you'll need.
In remote release mode, the system works as expected. Sync the receiver to the handheld and you're ready to go. For advanced training, it controls multiple launchers and has a 'rapid launch' feature to simulate a flushed covey or flock.
The training mode may take longer to get used to if you're already using the Pro 550. The PRO Control 2 has four training modes that each offers a different combination of Tone, Vibration, Momentary, and Continuous. Then there are 18 primary intensity settings (Pro 550 has 9). I think this actually gives you MORE variable intensity settings than the Pro 550, but only has two secondary settings (high and low) for each primary intensity instead of Pro 550's three settings (high, medium, low). This will take some experimenting to find similar intensity levels if you're going from one controller to the other.
Going from Release to Training mode and back will take some practice, and I'm not yet convinced it will be worth the time. I really like the Pro 550 and will stick to it for now. But it's nice to know I have a backup if necessary.
